Before you self diagnose, follow safety regulations recommended by OSHA:
* Check the circuit breaker and reset
* Check if appliance is working
* Take off any metal you are wearing on hands, wrist and neck
* Pull hair back
* Unplug the appliance before self diagnosing
WASHER
Leaks- could be caused by hoses, door gaskets, pump, tub boot, or too much soap
No spin/no drain- most commonly caused by belt, coupler, lid switch or pump
Not filling- commonly pressure switch or valve
Burn smell- something in pump, belt or a bad motor
DRYER
Clogged vents can cause the dryer to take too long to dry. Also, checking the thermostat or the element may be shorting. Always keep vents clear.
No start- can be a door switch or the motor is out. Gas dryers- Can be the ignitor, a gas valve, thermostat or sensors
No heat- commonly a thermostat, thermistor and element
REFRIGERATOR
Not cold- is usually caused by a bad cold control or a defrost problem
Leaking- can be caused by a defrost problem, a plugged drain trough, drain heaters are out, or the door gaskets not properly sealed
Running constantly- is common with bad door seals, thermostats or defrosts problems
DISHWASHER
No drain- is commonly a plugged drain, a bad pump, or a kinked hose
No fill- is usually caused by a bad float switch or valve
Not cleaning- check filter, if plugged clean filter. If you have low water supply, low water temperature or excessive detergent, these also could cause debris on dishes
HOT WATER DISPENSER
No heat- usually thermostat or motor is bad
TRASH COMPACTOR
Most common - Jammed. Clear and clean debris out completely. Lube drives or replace mechanical parts.
GARBAGE DISPOSAL
Jammed and humming- disposer plugged. Motor could be bad.
RANGES/OVENS
Not baking- can be caused by a bad element or bad bake switch
Not broiling- usually caused by element, thermostat or select switch
Burners out- bad element disc, burner block or switch
GAS UNITS- most common repair is the spark module and ignitor
COOK-TOP
Not baking- can be caused by a bad element or bad bake switch

MICROWAVES
No heat- caused by a ad capacitor, rectifier, relay board, or magnatron

No ice- usually a bad I/M or it needs a valve. Gears could be stripped
Leaking- commonly a valve or fill tube
FREEZER
Not freezing- Thermostat, relay or compressors are the most common problem
Leaking- This could be a bad door gasket or a plugged drain trough
